The AIS module allows you to connect to an AIS transponder and display other ships equipped with AIS on the map. All information received from other ships can be displayed. This can include the ship's size, call sign, European ship number, cargo, destination, etc. The ship's direction is indicated by an arrow. In certain areas, such as Austria, it is possible to receive water level information via the transponder and use it to display the map.

The AIS interface has been designed in accordance with the international standards for maritime AIS and the latest inland AIS standards set by the Middle Rhine Commission and the Danube Commission.

AIS can also be used as a position indicator. Two-way communication is possible with many types of AIS devices. This means that messages can be sent/received easily using the software instead of AIS. This also allows the "passengers on board" and "destination" settings to be made directly from the software. The ETA Lock/bridge message also allows easy communication with certain locks and bridges. The software has built-in and tested communication with inland AIS devices such as Nauticast A2, ACR, Saab R5, SRT, Furuno, Comnav, True Heading, Kongsberg, CNS, Periskal Black Box PM-1, etc.

At the bottom of the screen, you can instantly switch between "moored" and "underway" states. The AIS configuration for convoys is very simple and allows for instant configuration of AIS parameters when the convoy changes.

Periskal Inland ECDIS Viewer works as an approved interface with black box transponders (transponders without keyboard and display), such as Periskal Mobile PM-1. Full AIS functionality is possible. ECDIS Viewer is certified for operation as MKD by the German river authorities.

For seagoing vessels, it is possible to check individual vessels in the vicinity of your own vessel and place them in the "AIS Watch" window. There, the CPA and TCPA are continuously calculated and displayed. This works like an ARPA radar, but the information comes from the data of the AIS transponders of other vessels. For clarity, sailing ships are displayed with their names, while stationary ships have no names.

The AIS module can also be activated remotely with a code. Periskal has been approved by the Rhine Central Commission as an official company for the installation of inland AIS equipment.
