What is an F socket?

The F connector is a two-wire coaxial cable connector used to connect antennas and set top boxes to TVs, DVD players and other digital devices. This coaxial RF connector is used by Eric. E. Winston, who developed accessories specifically for TV sets in the 1950s to ensure a clear broadcast reception and a smooth viewing experience.

Widely used for both UHF and VHF antenna television, the F connector has provided decades of reliable performance at an affordable price. Available in threaded and threadless types, it is also used by satellite TV operators and terrestrial broadcasters, making it a truly versatile connector.

The connector can be connected to coaxial cables in several ways. Although connecting coax cables is not one of the most difficult tasks, professionals always use professional cable strippers and a quality tool kit, so it is worth being careful with semi-professional tools at home.

What types of F connectors are available from DND Telecom?

  • 75 ohm. In our webshop you will find 75 ohm F connectors, mainly used for TV or camcorders.
  • Crimpable. These connectors must be pressed onto the cable with crimping pliers when fixing. Crimping F is one of the different types of connectors that require some electrical engineering experience, so if you are not sure, it is better to leave it to a professional - this way the connector and the cable will not be damaged.
  • Rotatable. If you choose a solderable connector, be sure to use a reliable soldering iron to ensure a precise and secure connection. An old, outdated soldering iron is not enough for the job.
  • Straight or 90 degrees. Whether you're looking for a straight or 90 degree elbow connector, we've got you covered.
  • PCB mountable. Would you like to build the connector into your electronic device? Our product range also includes printed circuit board mountable types.

When should you have a professional install the connector?

If you have never worked with crimping pliers before, or if you have never carried out an electrical engineering task requiring very precise soldering, it is advisable to have the work carried out by a specialist. However, if you want to start fitting and crimping or soldering the connector yourself, you can look for instructional videos on the Internet where electrical experts explain and show you the process step by step.
