Wireless home or office phones are one of the most reliable telecommunication devices available today, allowing you to reach your relative or colleague on the other side of the world without any problems. And nowadays, you can choose between digital and analogue cordless phones. Service providers will soon switch to NGN-based connectivity, which stands for Next Generation Network.

When this development takes place, analogue and digital landline telephony will be completely separated. Remember, the current standard for cordless phones is Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunication, which stands for DECT, making it much safer to communicate via such a device than, for example, a mobile phone.

What features should we consider when choosing a corded portable phone?

When buying a portable phone, you should consider that you can also move around freely when using it, and you can take it out into the garden, quite far from the base station. You can even pair several handsets together, so you can use several cordless phones with one phone number. By using this type of communication device, you save a lot of hassle that cables would cause. But these devices even include an answering machine. When we're not at home, anyone can leave us a message and when we're in our office or at home, we can call back in peace of mind.

How far away can a cordless handset connect to the base station?

The biggest advantage of cordless phones is mobility. Nowadays, these types of phones have a considerable range, 300 metres from the base station outdoors and 50 metres indoors, within which we can safely use the handset.

What is the sound quality of a corded handset?

Wireless phones are still more reliable than the relatively new IP-based mobile phones. So it's safe to say that their sound quality is unbeatable, not just when the signal strength is perfect, but at any time of day.

How long is the battery life and how long can you use it on a single charge?

It depends on what kind of cordless phone you have. If the NiMH batteries that are widely used today are in your handset, they will drain much faster and have a longer charge time than the latest Li-Ion mini batteries. Usually, you need to put 2 AAA batteries in the handset of your cordless phone and the base station can be charged via a mains adapter. Charging time varies from model to model, but almost all portable phones are ready for use within an hour or two, but take about 5-7 hours to fully charge.

What features are available through the screens of cordless phones?

To make portable phones more convenient, manufacturers have added a number of useful features. For example, you can display incoming calls or, as in the case of mobile phones, you can store your regularly used phone numbers in a contacts list or browse through your call history. The display also shows us how full the battery is. We can even adjust the tone and even set the ring volume for each device.

There are manufacturers that let us set 15 different ring tones on their cordless phones. If that's not enough for your convenience, you can of course also use the handy alarm clock function, which can be set daily.
