How do Qi chargers work?
The term Qi itself stands for the Chinese word "qi", which means life energy. The development of induction chargers started in 2008, with the help of several companies. Today, nearly 500 mobile phone and tablet manufacturers have adopted the standard, including global brands such as Apple, Google, Huawei and Samsung.
The first companies have started to use the technology to create new devices, which are now being developed by India's leading manufacturers.
Simply put, of course, Qi chargers work by creating an electromagnetic field around themselves. When a compatible device is placed near the charger, a coil inside the device can pick up the energy and convert it into the current needed to charge the battery. Although wireless charging is a novelty in the world of mobile phones and tablets, it has been a standard solution in other areas for decades (including electric toothbrushes).
In which situations is a plug-in wireless charger useful?
• For cars: in-car wireless chargers are useful in many situations. This solution eliminates the need for any wiring in the passenger compartment and the need for a converter adapter when travelling abroad. In addition to cars, Qi chargers are a great choice for trucks, trains, buses, or even special vehicles such as forklifts.
• In public spaces. They also stand their ground in a restaurant, café or hotel, providing guests with a lightning-fast charging option. Because they are built-in, they can be discreetly hidden in a table, sofa or other furniture. The devices are dust and waterproof to IP65, so there's no need to worry about damage, even under extreme conditions.
Some QI chargers offer lightning-fast charging
How is this possible? These fast chargers charge at slightly higher amperages than conventional 1000 milliamp adapters or most cheaper wireless chargers. This means your smartphone or tablet will charge noticeably faster. What does this mean in numbers? Sometimes it takes less than two hours to fully charge a nearly empty smartphone battery.
But these types of versions also cost a little more. But time is money, as they say. But there are some things to consider. Wireless charging is, of course, less efficient than cable charging, because in this case a certain amount of energy is lost in the ether. So if you're using a power supply that can only deliver 1000 mA, a wireless charger won't be able to charge at more than that.
What else to look out for when buying a plug-in wireless charger?
The Qi wireless charger will indicate that charging is in progress or possibly complete by a certain light signal.The intensity of this light signal or the arrangement of the LED diodes can be confusing, especially if you want to place the wireless charger on the bedside table, for example. It may be at an angle that disturbs you when driving. So the first and most important decision before buying your QI charger is where you want to place it, to rule out such problems in the first place.
