What you need to know about batteries
The batteries we know today were invented in 1800 by the Italian physicist Alessandro Volta. Volta is credited with developing the theory of electricity, discovering the electrolysis of water and, as mentioned above, inventing the galvanic cell, which consists of a zinc and copper electrode immersed in a sulphuric acid solution. From his name, we have already guessed that the former unit of measurement is named after him. Batteries, like accumulators, are made up of cells and have two poles, positive and negative.
The batteries must be inserted into the device so that they are in contact with the "lugs", because the battery supplies power to the device through these lugs. If a contact does not meet properly with a particular pole of the battery, no power will flow. Today you can buy Ni-Mh rechargeable, NiCD and lithium batteries. But what kind of power do we need?
The mAh indicates approximately how much power the battery offers. Before using it, it's also worth doing a battery test to see if the cell contains as much power as it promises. There's one more important piece of information that's good to know: the higher the power of the battery, the longer its lifespan.
Which battery to choose?
If a device requires medium power, a battery around 2000 mAh is the best choice. Examples are remote controls or wall clocks. In this case you can choose nickel cadmium batteries. However, if you are looking for a battery for a camera, lithium versions will provide long-lasting power. These types of mini batteries last longer because they have a higher capacity, which they also deliver more evenly, but they also tend to cost twice as much as the rechargeable versions.
Current batteries provide 2600 mAh. Some devices simply do not need excessive voltage, which can damage them, so be sure to read the instructions before putting batteries in your device.
Why should you choose a branded battery?
Brand batteries are available in the DND Telecom webshop. This is because, for example, mini batteries from Duracell, Varta or Samsung will last up to 15 years. Cheap batteries may be a more cost-effective solution in the short term, but they lose power much earlier and cost much more in the long run than their branded counterparts. Therefore, if you can, avoid buying large quantities of unknown brand batteries that will lose performance before they are used.
What batteries are available in the DND Telecom webshop?
The following types of batteries are used in households, commercial units or industrial installations: N, AAAA, AAA, AA, C, D, 9 volt, 12 volt and button batteries.
• AA pencil batteries: these types of pencil batteries are among the most popular batteries. As a general rule, all AA batteries offer a voltage of 1.5 V. These are the most common types of batteries. These 1.5-volt and 14.5x50.5 mm batteries are suitable for wall clocks and remote controls, among other things, as well as for many other electronic devices in everyday use. Every household should stock up on AA batteries to power flashlights, Christmas decorations and newly purchased children's toys.
• AAA pencil batteries: also known as micro-ceramic batteries, these batteries, like AA batteries, are also used in remote controls, wall clocks and other small household devices. These batteries measure 10.45x44.5 millimetres and are visibly thinner than their big brother, the AA battery.
• Baby batteries: robust-looking, "chunky" baby batteries are usually used to power flashlights and toys. Baby batteries are on the list of alkaline batteries. They come in 1.5 V and in addition to C, their types include LR14 and MN1400.
• Goliath batteries: these mini batteries have been with us since 1898 and are mainly used in torches. However, like the smaller baby batteries, 34.2x61.5 mm goliaths are also used to power toys and other electronic devices.
Goliaths have been around since 1898.
• 6LR61 batteries. These rectangular batteries measure 26.5x17.5 millimetres, making them about the length of a matchstick.
9.6 x 9.5 mm.
• Remote control batteries. You can choose between MN21 and MN27 remote control batteries, but you can also easily get classic AA and AAA batteries from our favourite online shop - the online shop run by DND Telecom Ltd. And thanks to the durable batteries, your TV and fan or LED strip remote controls will last for years.
• Button cells: cylindrical button cells are mainly used in low-power technical items such as watches and calculators, remote controls and other small technical items. They can be supplied in 3V or 1.5V and are available in CR1616, CR1620, CR2016, CR2025, CR2032, LR44 and LR54.
• More batteries. Here you can choose only from batteries from trusted brands that will ensure flawless performance for your small to large technical items.
