But with so many models available today, with countless sizes, functions and operating principles, choosing can be a problem. That's why we've put together the following guide to help you make the decision more smoothly.

How does a cooler work?

Let's start right away by saying that there are several basic types of portable coolers. The simplest and perhaps most widely used of these is the cooler bag, followed by the more serious cooler bags and then the cooler boxes, with the best quality being provided by electric cooler bags and electric cooler boxes. They differ not only in appearance, durability and performance, but also in the way they work.

Non-electric products are simple in design: in addition to careful insulation, they have pre-chilled ice packs to ensure that the food and drinks they contain do not get hot. The more sophisticated coolers are now equipped with active cooling, which means that they not only keep the food cool, but also cool it. There are three types of refrigeration technology. One is absorption, which is based on a gas-fired cooling system and has a convenient three-way power supply.

The thermoelectric versions are cheaper, but their operation depends heavily on the temperature at which they are used - but they also include some super-cooling units. As these are very popular, it's worth saying a few words about their use. If possible, store these types of coolers in a cool place for several hours before use, but it is perfectly fine to keep them on the bottom shelf in the pantry until they are ready for their next use. One thing to remember is to keep them out of direct sunlight. We recommend that you cool drinks and food properly before putting them inside.

If you do this, you will have 24 hours of cool drinks at your disposal. Of course, this time interval is shortened by opening an unnecessary cooler. These types of coolers can keep the drinks and food they contain between 18 and 22 degrees Celsius lower than the temperature of the outside environment.

Compressor coolers are also excellent at the most extreme temperatures: they can be used for both cooling and deep-freezing, with low power consumption. And they even run on solar power!

What are the features of the coolers available in the DND online shop?

Before you immediately buy a new cooler, let's look at the features that you should compare for each model. The first question is, of course, for what purpose you are buying the cool box - more on this in the next paragraph. This will determine which model is the most suitable for you.

You also need to consider the ambient temperature at which you will be using it, its storage capacity, how heavy or light it is, how convenient its handles are and how easy it is to carry. Last but not least, it should also be easy to clean, as accidents can happen at any time.

But it is also worth considering how the inside of the cooler can be organised and what other uses it can be put to. For example, the 43-litre Dometic Cool-Ice CI 42 from DND Telecom provides a comfortable place to sit when fishing or boating.

Who should buy a cool box?

Now that we've covered the big picture of coolers in general, let's take a look at who should invest in one! The simpler types are great for summer shopping sprees or for holidays and picnics - in other words, every family should have one or two for convenience. But if you're a domestic haulage driver, or even a truck driver, a professional cooler can be a great help.

In these cases, it is recommended to choose a 24-litre capacity version. This capacity can hold up to 32 cans of soft drinks or six 1.5 litre bottles standing upright. This is enough space to avoid having to buy your cold, refreshing drinks at the petrol station on the way. But it also gives us enough space to keep our food at the right temperature. But more serious versions, such as a compressor cooler, are not designed for this use.

They are much heavier and sturdier, recommended primarily for pastimes such as hunting or fishing. In this case, you should choose the Dometic Cool ICE CI 42 from the DND webshop, which has a capacity of 43 litres. I'm sure we've all had to go home early from fishing because we couldn't store the fish we caught in the right place. This cooler is the solution to that too. And after that, we won't leave home without a well-cooled and fresh-keeping appliance.

Find the right cooler in the DND Telecom webshop

With all the above information together, you're now guaranteed to feel more confident when choosing your new cool box. The DND Telecom online store offers a selection of quality, reliable pieces that will satisfy whatever the purpose of your purchase. A particular plus is that the site offers detailed technical specifications of the products.

This makes it easy to compare the individual pieces in detail to find the most ideal one. But there are also a large number of very practical accessories for the coolers available in the DND Telecom online shop. For example, a fish finger holder, a bottle opener or a cup holder.
