This flat battery was then used for flashlights, namely for reading maps. It was the most common type of battery until 1970. This 67 mm high, 62 mm long and 22 mm wide alkaline 4.5 V flat battery is used for medium-power appliances. The battery has 2 flexible contacts 6-7 mm wide, made of thin sheet metal, the short contact being the positive pole contact and the slightly longer one the negative pole contact. As the name suggests, its flat design is what makes it so special.

The flat battery is capable of medium power, is truly durable, and is guaranteed leak-proof. This type of battery can keep its performance for up to 10 years, but it needs to be stored in a suitable place. They must be stored in a dry and cool place. This type of battery is ideal for powering remote controls, flashlights, radios, wall clocks, portable CD players, or higher power appliances. 4.5V flat batteries are also known as 3LR12, 3R12, MN1203 or 1203.
