DVB-C Set-top Boxes

- further categories

The DVB-C receiver is designed to receive digital video signals, i.e. digital signals from cable TV operators. Cable TV operators are slowly but surely phasing out their analogue broadcasts and old picture tube TV sets are not able to handle digital signals. The solution is a DVB-C and combo set top box, which allows you to enjoy cable TV, satellite TV and terrestrial TV channels such as MindigTV, Mindig TV Premium, formerly known as Mindig TV Extra, and DIGI cable TV channels without any problems. How to choose the right DVB-C and combo set-top box for your needs?

There is a wide range of DVB-C combo set-top boxes to choose from in the DND Telecom webshop. Therefore, there are several aspects to consider before making a purchase. Perhaps the most important is to choose an indoor unit that can be connected to your TV without any problems. As mentioned above, DVB-C indoor units are capable of receiving digital signals via cable, so once the previous question has been answered, we need to think about the different functions we need. This will help us choose the right DVB-C combo set-top box for us.

What connectivity options are available for DVB-C and combo set-top boxes?

If your TV is an earlier model with a coax or RF connection on the back, you can only connect an indoor unit with a EuroScart or RCA connection. If the combo set-top-box combo for cable TV indoor unit contains an RF modulator, a simple coax cable will be fine. If you have a digital TV at home, you'll need an HDMI connector.

What extra features do modern DVB-C and combo set-top boxes offer?

These types of indoor units offer a range of extra features. But let's take a closer look at what they are. For example, the Conax card reader. If you want to watch more than the 12 free channels provided by MindigTV, you need a TV set-top box with a Conax card reader to receive the pay packages. But you can also choose an indoor unit compatible with a Wifi antenna. The advantage of this type of DVB-C combo set-top box is that it is a "one-person" Full HD digital satellite receiver, but it can also receive digital terrestrial, cable and satellite TV channels.

Because we're not always at home when our favourite programmes are on, it's important to be able to record them so we can record them and watch them back. If you are looking for an indoor unit with this feature, you should look for the English term PVR Ready. If you like YouTube channels and, let's face it, they're becoming more and more exciting, you should also make sure your set-top box has this mode. But as a parent, there is one setting that is almost mandatory and that is the parental lock function. When you choose an indoor unit and want to place it in a place where you will be sitting away from the set, check whether the indoor unit has a remote control and, if so, what range it has.

How easy is it to install and set up DVB-C and combo set-top boxes?

Anyone who has installed and set up an indoor set-top box will know that combo indoor sets are extremely easy to set up. But let's look at the process. Before starting the installation, make sure you have all the necessary tools and accessories. Here we're talking about the power supply, the remote control, the pencil batteries that power them, the HDMI and UTP cables, and the installation instructions.

When everything is in place, we connect the devices using the UTP and HDMI cables. When you're done, plug the power supply into the socket and connect it to the set-top box! Then switch on both the TV and the indoor unit. After that, it's just a matter of setting up the TV according to your needs, which is no more complicated than programming the TV.
