YSHIELD SIL54 is a liquid, black shielding paint for indoor use. It is designed as an electrically conductive base coating for shielding high-frequency electromagnetic fields and low-frequency electric fields. The dispersion silicate paint can be used on walls, ceilings and floors. It has a preservative-free formulation, a coarse pigment size of 80 micrometers and forms a relatively soft film.

YSHIELD SIL54 TÜV-SÜD certification

The product is certified according to the TÜV-SÜD TM-09 test standard. The certification covers testing of health-related contents and emissions, regular product and process monitoring, control of raw materials and monitoring of product-specific preservatives. The certification identifies the product as low emission and free of preservatives.

SIL54 substrates and preparation

• Good adhesion to absorbent substrates such as paint, wallpaper, plaster, concrete and wood
• Due to its potassium silicate content, it cannot be used directly on gypsum-based substrates
• The substrate must be dry and free from dirt and separating substances
• Absorbent or porous surfaces must be primed
• Absorbent substrates must be pre-treated with GK5 primer
• Old coats of paint or wallpaper that can be dissolved by water must be removed

Without a primer, binder and water are absorbed into an absorbent substrate, causing the physical properties of the coating to deteriorate.

YSHIELD SIL54 preparation and application

• Conductive particles settle at the bottom of the container
• Shake the container and stir homogeneously with an electric stirrer after opening
• An AR42 paint stirrer can be used for 1 and 5 liter containers
• The paint is ready to use
• Do not mix with water or other paint products
• Air and substrate temperature must be at least 5 C during application
• Temperature must not fall below 5 C during drying

A paint roller with a pile height of 6-13 mm can be used for application. Uniform layer thickness and full-surface application are important for shielding attenuation. Short-pile paint rollers, foam rollers and brushes are only suitable to a limited extent because they apply the paint layer unevenly. Airless spraying is possible with hole sizes of 0.2-0.5 mm.

SIL54 layers and drying

• Application in one, two or three layers is possible

• Allow 24-48 hours drying time before recoating

A two-layer top coat can be used to protect the black surface from mechanical stress and moisture. Indoors, well-covering, plastic-bonded emulsion paints or emulsion silicate paints can be used. Alternatively, the surface can be covered with wallpaper or glass fabric. Many purely mineral coatings and eco paints adhere poorly to the graphite surface, therefore a test coat on a test surface is required.

YSHIELD SIL54 grounding and equipotential bonding

The electrically conductive surface must be integrated into the functional equipotential bonding system. When shielding large areas, shielding materials are considered external conductive parts and must therefore be grounded by connection to the equipotential bonding system.

SIL54 storage, cleaning and disposal

• Store in a cool, frost-free place and out of reach of children

The coating has a high staining capacity and should be handled with care. Wipe off splashes immediately while wet. Do not inhale spray mist. Ensure thorough ventilation during application and drying. Avoid eating, drinking or smoking while applying the paint. In case of contact with eyes or skin, rinse thoroughly with water immediately.
