Tectalk Smile controls and functions

• Antenna
• Power on and off button
• Channel selection button
• Two LED channel indicators
• PTT/CALL button
• Microphone
• Speaker

To switch the device on or off, press and hold the power button for approximately 3 seconds. A beep confirms the operation.

Transmitting and receiving

When switched on, the Tectalk Smile is automatically in reception mode. Pressing and holding the PTT, or Push to Talk, button switches the device to transmission mode. While speaking, hold the device vertically with the microphone approximately 3-5 cm from the mouth and speak at a normal volume.

Releasing the PTT button ends transmission and enables the reception of radio messages. The two devices can communicate only when they are set to the same channel.

Channel selection and LED indication

• Channel 1: the left LED is illuminated
• Channel 2: the right LED is illuminated
• Channel 3: both LEDs are illuminated

The channel selection button can be used to select one of the three preset channels. If no button is pressed for 6 seconds, the device returns to standby mode.

Call tone function

The CALL TONE function sends an audible call melody to the other device to indicate a call or an upcoming radio message. The call tone is sent by briefly pressing the PTT/CALL button.

Albrecht Tectalk Smile design and use

The device has a rounded design without sharp corners or edges. Documented applications include use in the garden, around the neighbourhood, at the playground, on bicycle trips and during holidays. The set can be used for exploration, detective and other creative games.

The two radios communicate directly with each other when the same one of the three coded channels is selected. The radios can be used domestically and abroad without registration or radio usage fees.
