12V Lead-Acid Battery
12V batteries are used in many areas, such as electronics, entertainment, household and caravans. These types of batteries are not used for starting, but are so-called working batteries, which can provide a constant amount of power over a long period of time. These types of batteries are characterised by long life, dynamic behaviour and are maintenance and leakage free. These batteries are made with thicker plates by the manufacturers and are therefore capable of deep discharging and recharging. Their capacity is expressed in ampere-hours, abbreviated Ah. What does this tell us? It tells us how many amps the battery can deliver in a given time interval before it is discharged. DND Telecom has a wide range of 12V batteries in its online shop. For example, you can choose from 5, 7.2, 9, 12 or even 18 Ah working batteries. Read more...

Which 12V battery to choose?
The battery type is always indicated by a code. This code includes its basic design, dimensions and polarity (+/- left/right). This means that if several batteries have the same code, they are interchangeable. However, many manufacturers use their own codes. But some manufacturers also use a different brand reference number on the outside of the battery. This makes it easier to find your way around. If you are not sure that you have put the right battery in your shopping cart, please contact the DND Telecom webshop and they will be happy to help you choose the right 12V battery.
How long is the 12V battery life?
As with 6V batteries, the lifespan of 12V versions depends on the manufacturer, usage and maintenance. 12V batteries also last for 3-5 years in most cases, but they can last up to 7 years. To ensure this, there are a few rules to follow. The optimum operating temperature for 12V batteries is also 25 degrees Celsius. If they are used at higher temperatures, their lifespan will be rapidly reduced. So, do not use them in a much higher temperature range. Experts say that if you operate your battery at temperatures higher than 8 degrees Celsius, its lifetime will be halved.
Causes of 12V battery failure
As mentioned above, we need to pay attention to the ambient temperature in order to ensure that this type of battery lasts for a long time. But there are also two other things to watch out for, one is undercharging and the opposite, overcharging. In the first case, the batteries are constantly discharged and are not properly charged in the meantime. This is a problem because in this case the sulphates in the battery stick to the discharged parts of the plates, which harden over time and the battery fails. Remember, sulphation is the number one cause of battery failure. But let's also talk about the other cause: overcharging. The second most common cause of battery failure is overcharging. This can lead to severe fluid loss, which can cause corrosion. How can we prevent our 12V batteries from failing? Both problems can be effectively solved by using automatic chargers.
The DND Telecom webshop stocks Enersys brand 12V batteries!
Enersys Genesis NP 12V batteries feature heavy-duty, thick lead-calcium grids for reliable performance. The high energy density design, factory sealed housing and leak-proof construction ensure that these rechargeable sealed lead acid batteries are extremely reliable and virtually maintenance free. Genesis NP 12V batteries are designed with a pressure relief valve to release pressure build-up in the battery housing. This vent is completely self-closing, ensuring the highest possible internal recombination rate is achieved in each battery. Genesis NP batteries are designed to operate for 3-5 years in standby applications. They can operate over a wide temperature range and recover after repeated deep discharges
A wide range of Emos and FIAMM brand 12V batteries are also available!
Fiamm's FG and FGH 12V sealed lead acid batteries are designed to meet medium to long discharge rates, with a design life of 5 years. FIAMM 12V FG series batteries are available in capacities from 1.2 - 42Ah. The FGH is designed for maximum performance in critical power applications such as UPS and data centres. The series is available in 12V with capacities from 5-18Ah. Connection is simple on the smaller models, thanks to lightweight terminals that can be quickly connected. FIAMM's SSLA batteries use VRLA technology, which operates at 99% internal recombination efficiency. They have a non-spillable and maintenance-free design, eliminating the need for electrolyte refills during their lifetime. The SSLA series are non-hazardous for air/sea/rail/road transport and are 100% recyclable. SSLA's self-discharge rate is less than 2% per month, guaranteeing a long shelf life.
