Antenna Rod and Radiator

An antenna is used to receive various signals and data. Depending on their design, they can be mounted on the roof or side of vehicles, boats or buildings. Many of us use the radio in the car for entertainment, but the antenna also helps transmit signals from the transceiver while we are at work, think of taxi drivers, truck drivers or even firemen and ambulances. Whatever the purpose of your transceiver, CB radio, you'll need an antenna rod or transmitter. Read more...

What types of Antenna Rod and Radiator are available in the online shop and how to choose the most suitable one?

In the DND Telecom webshop you can buy TETRA antenna, VHF tunable antenna poles, as well as 1300 mm, 1600 mm, 2000 mm antenna spare poles. These antennas can be used for transceivers operating in UHF, VHF or TETRA bands. One of the criteria for selection is of course the activity for which you want to use the antenna mast. If for official use, then choose the TETRA antenna sticks, but if for private use, then the VHF antenna stick and radiator is a good choice.

What is the difference between each antenna rod and how does this affect their performance?

The antenna poles and radiators available in our online store come in a variety of sizes. From 18 centimetres to 2 metres, there is a wide range to choose from. Keep in mind that the length of the antenna rod largely determines its performance. But in general, car-mounted antennas can have a range of up to 50-80 km. The TETRA antenna rod transmits digital signals that are used by companies and public authorities.

The TETRA antennas operate on 25 kHz bandwidth channels, which can be used for both voice and data transmission. The maximum bit rate is 28.8 kb/s when all 4 traffic channels are combined into a single data link. For civil use, these antenna sticks use the 410-430 MHz frequency band, while the 380-385/390-395 MHz band is reserved for emergency calls. In some countries, civil transceivers use the entire 380-400 MHz band.

Which frequency bands do the available Antenna Rod and Radiator operate in?

As mentioned above, the frequency range for TETRA antennas is between 380MHz and 430MHz, and for VHF/UHF antenna masts or transmitters the range is between 134MHz and 174MHz. Note that these poles can be tuned. But you can also buy a raw rod from the DND Telecom webshop, which can be cut to size, frequency by frequency.

What is the range and coverage of antenna rods and how is this affected by the environment and possible obstacles?

To determine the coverage and reception quality of different antennas, certain factors need to be taken into account. These include the gain of the antenna, its SWR, the height of the antenna rod, the length of the cable and the attenuation of the connectors. Once these antenna characteristics are available, the range and coverage of the antenna rod can be determined. However, there are some external factors that will greatly affect this. For example, a densely populated urban area, or an area with varying ground elevation.

How are Antenna Rod and Radiator installed and do you need professional help?

Nyers poles need to be cut to size according to frequency, but exactly how big is something a professional can determine. Why? Because for an antenna to work properly, it needs to be the right length, which means the antenna needs to resonate. If you want, the experts at the DND Telecom webshop will be happy to do this, but not only that, they will also be happy to help you with advice.

Is there a compatibility problem between antenna rods and different devices such as routers, modems?

No, the connectors of the antenna rods available in our webshop have M5 and M6 threads, which fit perfectly into the magnetic and insertable antenna dishes of different manufacturers. For the replacement rods, you will need a coil and a base, but which one you choose is entirely up to you, as it is not manufacturer-dependent either.

What extras and accessories are available for the antenna poles, such as amplifiers or holders?

For VHF and spare poles, it is necessary to tune them. This can be checked by measuring the SWR, the standing wave ratio. Therefore, in these cases you will definitely need an SWR meter, i.e. an antenna tuner, but it is also a good idea to get a magnet base, possibly an antenna support bracket, a retractable antenna base and RG-58 coax cable.
