Further details of Nauticast B2 Inland AIS Transponder

In inland navigation, the Automatic Identification System (AIS) is used to automatically identify and track vessels. AIS was originally introduced by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for maritime use. The most important AIS system element on board a vessel travelling on inland waterways is the so-called Inland AIS transponder, which enables the transmission of data for positioning and identification and facilitates the exchange of data between vessels equipped with a transponder. Each vessel equipped with an Inland AIS transponder transmits static (vessel ID, call sign, name), dynamic (position, speed, heading) and voyage (loaded dive, destination, estimated time of arrival) data. All transponder-equipped vessels, as well as coastal inland AIS base stations, can display vessels within range that are transmitting identification signals. On the transponder display or on the computer running the inland ECDIS application, the skipper of the vessel can have a continuous up-to-date overview of the traffic in the vicinity.

River information services supported by Inland AIS:
- vessel positioning and tracking
- tactical traffic information
- real-time traffic data
- Planned time of arrival calculation
- accident tracking
- lock management
